Women's Prize for Fiction Winners

The Women's Prize for Fiction, established in 1996 in response to the all-male Booker Prize shortlist of 1991, is awarded annually to the best novel written in English by a woman. Its winners — Zadie Smith, Lionel Shriver, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Maggie O'Farrell — represent some of the most important literary fiction written in English over the past three decades. The Prize has consistently identified writers who go on to major international careers and has expanded the range of voices and experiences recognised by the British literary establishment.
